Bill Abel -- Canned Heat

At 44 years old Bill Abel has learned blues first hand from musicians he has known throughout his life. Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta town of Belzoni, Bill has played with blues legends such as Honey Boy Edwards, Henry Townsend, Hubert Sumlin, Big George Brock and local blues musicians such as T-Model Ford, Sam Carr, Cadillac John, Monroe Jones, David Lee Durham, Tommy Hollis, WH Lowe and most notably the late recording artist and W.C. Handy Award nominee, Paul ?Wine? Jones. Paul traveled extensively playing blues across the world from Europe to Japan. Paul Jones has been a major influence on Bill?s music. David Lee Durham has opened over 25 times for B.B. King at the historic Club Ebony and plays at the 308 Blues Club and Cafe, in Indianola, on a regular basis as well. Having developed his own unique way of singing and handling the guitar; he commands the attention of fellow musicians and serious blues fans. He is one of the last of the Real Deal Mississippi Delta Blues Men and many consider a Mississippi Treasure.

The Heartless Villains, from Tippo Mississippi, formed in the summer of 2005 to create and explore with new music. Starting out as a three piece, the trio searched for a singer. After finding that singer, the line-up was complete. Sharing the same goals, the Heartless Villains have been writing and recording music. Locked in a house in the Mississippi Delta, the Heartless Villains have come together as one band with one sound? a mix of 60s psychodelic and todays rock.

Bill Perry is a Mississippi blues guitarist/singer. Perry was born in Abbeville, Mississippi, and he has been playing soul, blues and gospel for over 35 years. His career has taken him all over the US and overseas. Bill says ?I?ve been doing this a long time. Hopefully it shows. I?m just playing the blues I love.?

We believe in putting on a great show as well as playing great music but, our main goal is to leave our audience anticipating the next time that we come to the area. Two brothers that grew up in the Mississippi Delta that were raised on music and came to the city to start a band in 1999. After playing various open mic?s from Jackson, Mississippi to Memphis, Tennessee, and some parts in between; a band was formed with Jason Bailey- guitar and vocals , Joe Brock Bailey- lead guitar and vocals, Dr. Bob Peoples- harmonica and vocals, and Brad Carter- drums. The Brothers rotate a variety of bass players and keyboard/organ players.

Struggling and Straining is packed with original songs coming out of the Mississippi Delta and the life story of a real delta bluesman. The sound is somewhere between B.B. King and Albert King. Two tracts feature the blues flute. You just can?t get tired of listening to this CD. The first CD to be recorded by Mississippi Valley State University and the B.B. King recording Studio. Boogie-woogie pianist and vocal stylist Eden Brent is a favorite at festivals, concerts and nightclubs. Dubbed ?Little Boogaloo? by her duo partner, the late Boogaloo Ames, this Mississippi Delta native holds a Bachelor of Music, yet credits Boogaloo with teaching her how to ?really play?. She has appeared in two television documentaries, ?Boogaloo & Eden: Sustaining the Sound?, and ?Forty Days in the Delta?, and was recently heard on public radio ? ?Beale Street Caravan?. Her debut album, ?Something Cool?, is now available on Little Boogaloo Records.

Gunboat - Gone Too Long

The creation of the band named Gunboat was formed and started with a improvisational jam session in an abandoned bar located in Morgan City, Mississippi. All members were born and raised in Greenwood Mississippi, but are now based out of Oxford, Mississippi. After being together for only two and a half years Gunboat has enough material to record their first album, and are currently making arrangements to record their first LP.

Dave Thompson has been playing blues guitar since age nine, with the encouragement and help of his musician father. A native of Mississippi, Thompson was playing in backing bands for local acts like the Greenville Letts by his early teens. Club owner and fellow bluesman Booba Barnes hooked up with Thompson when the latter was 15, and the two made the rounds on Mississippi?s sometimes-violent club circuit. Thompson?s first appearance on record was on David Malone?s debut album for Fat Possum?
